Sketchnoting has pretty simple supplies and you can get it all for around $20 USD. You'll need:
1. Sketchbook:
I recommend a SMALL pocket notebook that's 5" or smaller. (See my Supplies Guide linked above for brands!) The paper should be blank, dot grid, or grid. Lined isn't great for sketchnotes. When you're first starting out with sketchnoting, I encourage people to start small because you finish pages quickly and it builds confidence. Plus, small sketchbooks are easier to carry around with you. Keeping all of your work in a single notebook also helps you keep track of your skill progression. Having a bunch of loose sheets of paper makes tracking hard.
2. Black Pen:
Black pen or marker of your choice. See my guide above for my recc's!
3. Color Markers
See my guide above for my recc's! I love Tombos and Zebra Mildliners. The colors you select should be pastel, highlighter, neon, mild, or light. If you get a large pack of markers, you'll want to separate out darker colors for other projects... they won't work for sketchnoting.
4. Gray Marker
You can get single markers at most art supply stores or online, or multi-packs. Tombow N75 Gray is a great place to start if you don't have one on hand already... check your colored marker packs for a gray!
