Frequently asked questions

"What are the dates?"

This cohort runs from June 23rd to July 11th. We have live calls through the week (see schedule below in "contents" section).

"What's the time commitment involved?"

This cohort runs from June 23rd to July 11th. I'd say count on at least 2-3 hours of work each week:

  • 1 hour for a weekly call (or watching the recording)

  • 1-ish hour for lessons

  • 1-ish hour for exercises

The mid-week office hours calls are optional but encouraged.

This course has over 50 lessons and exercises you'll do on your own over the course of 3 weeks. It sounds like a lot, but most of the lessons are pretty short... plus they're fun! 😉

I have a feeling that you'll feel comfortable doing multiple lessons and exercises at once and won't feel overwhelmed.

How much time you spend in this program kind of depends on you and how invested you are in practicing the work. The more time you spend on the lessons, exercises, calls, and practicing, the better results you'll see over time!

"I don't live in the US. When are the live call times?"

All call times are posted in the contents section below, and are listed in Pacific time. Use this tool to translate to your timezone!

"I can't join some of the live call times. Is that okay? Can I still enroll?"

The hope is that you make every effort to attend as many live calls as you're able to (especially the closing call!), but I also understand you may not be able to make all of them and don't expect you to. I made the call times on different days at different times to help cover a variety of timezones, so naturally, some call times won't work for you or your schedule. You can always watch the recordings afterward (but recordings are pretty boring when no one shows up live!)

I'd say if you don't think you'd be able to join more than 2 calls due to timing, schedules, vacation, etc. then I'd encourage you to wait until this cohort is offered again.

"Do I have to show up on camera during the calls?"

Ideally, yes! This is a live, interactive cohort, and being on camera helps create a connected, supportive learning environment. You might be surprised to hear this, but your presence matters! Other students can learn from your questions, insights, and even your in-progress work.

Being on camera also makes it much easier to give personalized feedback and keep the session engaging for everyone.

That said, if you need to turn your camera off occasionally for privacy or focus, that’s totally fine. We just hope to see you when you can!

"What is included in this cohort class?"

  • 7 live calls:

    • 3 instruction calls with all students

    • 3 open office hours calls with Emily Mills for Q&A and critique

    • 1 closing call to share final project with all students

  • 50+ online lessons and practice exercises

  • A 25+ page workbook for exercises and practice

All calls will be recorded and posted within the online course. You retain online access to all class materials after the cohort ends.

"Are there refunds if I change my mind?"

Because this is a live cohort course with limited seats and immediate access to downloadable materials, I don’t offer refunds.

When you sign up, you're not only receiving lifetime access to the course content, you’re also claiming a spot in a live, guided cohort. That means someone else may miss out if the cohort fills up.

This policy ensures fairness and helps me create the best possible experience for committed students.

If you’re unsure whether the course is right for you, feel free to email me at emily@sketchacademy.com with your questions before enrolling. I’m happy to help you decide. Cohorts are offered multiple times per year, so if the timing isn't right, you'll have another opportunity.

I've heard enough... Count me in!
