Have you ever wondered what kind of picture to draw in your sketchnotes? Have you wondered how to be more clever in your imagery? In this workshop, you'll learn all about "Visual Metaphors" and how to use them in sketchnoting. You'll get to practice individually and in small groups.

What is a visual metaphor, simile, and analogy?

Why are they important to use in sketchnoting?

How can I come up with good images to use on my own?

You'll practice:

Creating visual metaphors on your own

Creating visual metaphors with others

Listening for visual language

When is the workshop?

Saturday, March 19th, 2022 from 10:30am - 12pm Central time. (1.5 hours) Find your time zone here.

Do I get the replay?

Only registered attendees will have access to the workshop downloads and replay video. Once the event is over, the replay will not be available to purchase again until the end of 2022.

What supplies will I need?

  • Plenty of loose paper (a notebook/journal will work)
  • A black pen of your choice
  • 2-3 colored markers of your choice. If you have a grey marker, bring that too! 

Meet Your Instructor

Emily Mills

I'm a professional illustrator most known for "sketchnotes" (aka live event drawings), and I'm the author of The Art of Visual Notetaking. I've been teaching creative workshops to thousands of students both online and in-person since 2017. I want to help you connect with your creativity and grow in confidence! When I'm not teaching, I run a creative studio, Flavor Graphics, alongside my husband in Bend, Oregon.
